Further to the Consultation on Cycle Track Kingswells to Bucksburn

Cycle Track Options and Proposed Redmyres Halting site

Since the end of the consultation on the cycle track between Kingswells and Bucksburn it has come to the attention of KCC that one of the proposed gypsy halting sites is Redmyres. This can be seen on the attached image (click to see enlarged image). The proposal would include a new access track that will run north from the site to Newhills.

Dear Sir or Madam

The Final Draft Core Paths Plan

After studying the above document and maps, Kingswells Community Council (KCC) now wishes to make the following comments.

We feel that this has been a well researched, clearly documented piece of work.

The aims and initiatives are clearly beneficial to the people of Aberdeen encouraging recreation, education and healthy outdoor pursuits.

Proposed Alternative Cycle Route

My understanding of the Option 1 cycle route is to consider the safety of school kids using this route. Keeping the route close to the existing road allows cyclists to be seen from the road at all times and allows easy access to passing motorists in case of a breakdown / puncture / accident / illness.

The problem with the Option 1 is that it is longer and includes more hills than Option 2. It is obvious that the adult cyclists will go for Option 2. I would like to propose the mark up as an alternative to Option 1.

Bucksburn to Kingswells Non Motorised User (NMU) Path Link

Public consultation on the corridor options of a path link between Kingswells and Bucksburn.

For a number of years ACC has received representations from the communities of Bucksburn and Kingswells requesting the creation of a link between the two areas for non-motorised users. The Neighbourhood Community Action Plans for both Kingswells and Bucksburn, developed following extensive public consultation, identify a need for better walking and cycling links between the two communities.

WEATHER AND DESIGN CHANGES BLAMED FOR CYCLE TRACK DELAY

Aberdeen Journals

Article from P&J: 08:50 - 27 February 2008

A £300,000 cycle track under construction near one of Aberdeen's busiest road is three weeks behind schedule.

The winter weather and changes to the design are being blamed for the delay at the A944 Westhill to Aberdeen road.

The Consultant looking into the routes for the Core Path 43 has almost completed their work. Currently, 10 routes have been identified and work has begun to narrow this down in preparation for public consultation which will start in the next couple of weeks.

KCC have passed on the views and concerns expressed to them so that they can be considered in the route selection process.
