Comments on suggestions made on how to spend £6,000

KCC's picture

The Community Council is given a small grant (£3,000) each year to enhance the community. We are about to start the installation of additional CCTV equipment in the shopping centre and we are looking for the best positions for some signs for Kingswells Village.

If you have any suggestions for spending up to £6,000 before December then please use the form to provide you views.

Please comment on how good or bad the suggestions made so far are:

How about a pictorial map of Kingswells, to be situated near the Community Centre? Many residents, and visitors are not sure how to get to Webster Park, Kingswells Church, the Village Hall, the school etc.

There is a nice example of such a map on the leaflets produced by Kingswells Church for their 150 Years celebrations.

15I think by the sounds of things it's the 13 to 17 age group that are lacking in facilities in the Kingswells area. Perhaps the money could be spent on providing something for them. A lot of them gather to play football in the school playground in the evenings which is acceptable and healthy but they get no end of trouble for doing this. This seems a shame as they are not causing any harm. A lot of other areas get terrible problems wih youths in the evenings, I think we are lucky with the majority of our lot here in Kingswells. I would rather any football club was aimed at this age group rather than the younger ones.
16I I would like to see some new equipment at the Wellside Place playpark. Also CCTV would be welcome at the park, as It is often frequented by teenagers leaving glass bottles etc around
17As a mother of an 8 year old and an 11 year old who seem to have plenty activities I would like to see some investment for their future ( and for the existing teenagers here). There is a severe lack of anything for them and I think we are lucky to date that there has not been too severe repercussions. However I feel that if we do not provide something for these kids to do then we will all suffer. I realise £6000 will not go far but perhaps it should go into a fund in the community centre to provide some entertainment for the teenage group.

19As Aberdeen City Council appear not to have the ability to pay for grass cutting in Kingswells this year, the grant could be used to keep the grass under control until ACC re-start, which presumably will be next spring.
20It would be great to plant a Christmas Tree to light up each year instead of using a cut one.
21Set up a Transport Management Organisation (Kingswells TMO) as they have in Dyce. This would facilitation car-sharing, free of charge, for example to work (in any direction); for weekly trips to the shops; or one-off trips to events like Murrayfield. This is great in cutting congestion; but it is also sociable and saves everyone a ton of money.
22Create a more user friendly website
23How about a Kingswells Fun Day/Gala Day? Could be based at Webster Park or the school playground and Community Centre. Bouncy castles for kids, races for all ages, outside caterers etc. Would require a fair amount of organisation but I'm sure a sub-committee could be formed?
24How about a Community Christmas Carol Concert with mulled wine, coffee etc.? A collection taken and donated to a worthwhile cause in Aberdeen?
25Organise the surface water drainage system (gully pots) to be cleared out on the smaller roads. It seems that Aberdeen Council don't have the funds to do this! Keeping the drainage system blocked isn't helping with localised flooding, and clearing them would solve a lot of problems with road maintenance, surface damage, etc.

No 24: Carol Concert

This has been considered in the past, but for one reason or another has not been achieved.

KCC is in touch with the Church and the School to see what can be organised this year. If you would like to help out contact John Gerrie

No 23: Gala / Fun Day

This is being considered, but needs volunteers to organise it. If you are interested then please contact Stan McEwan

No 21: Kingswells TMO

Why not just use the national LiftShare website instead - all set-up, easy to use, and takes the fuss out of setting up a specific one for Kingswells. Just publicise it more within the community.

Any comments on the website are welcomed.

No 21 Transport Management Organisation

A good suggestion, but one that is likely to need a lot of setting up, and in need of volunteers.

Anyone interested in this project?

No 20 Christmas Tree

This is something that KCC have considered, but this would be a very long term thing to achieve. The size of trees that can be bought with roots is quite small, and any tree would take years to grow into something that could be used.

No 15, 17 and 18: Things for Teenages to Do

This has always been a problem for Kingswells.

Any suggestions?

KCC has an action group that meets 3 or 4 times a year to discuss Youth issues. It would be useful if you added your suggestions for consideration at the next meeting.

No 16 Wellside Place Playpark

Is the playpark the responsibility of a resident's association? If so then the development of the playpark would come under the RA's control.

CCTV needs to be connected to some recording equipment, It may be possible to connect to the new system wirelessly. KCC will have a look at how feasible this would be.

CCTV needs to be justified. How bad is the problem? Would installing a CCTV system be seen as being heavy handed? What else has been tried to resolve the problem?

Do you know the answer to any of these questions?

No 12 Christmas Lights

KCC have looked at the cost of providing Christmas lights on lamposts.

Each light costs £300 - 500 which is a one off cost. In addition the cost of installation, removal and storage is £80 / year / light.

What do you think? Is this a good use of our funds?

Christmas lights

A nice idea, but a lot of money. Personally I think the Christmas tree is enough.

I agree with Fiona

No 5 Lights at School Playground

There are issues with this including the annoyance to nearby housing.

One issue is the noise made by balls hitting against the blue backing. Is anyone aware of something that can be done to reduce the noise made by balls kicked against steel mesh backing?

KCC's picture

No 7 School Playground

The school want to remove the hill in the playground as it is seen as Safety issue. The plan is to relocate the chute that is on the hill, and to provide play equipment on the space created.

The school will be fund raising for this project.

Should KCC assist with some funding, or should the authority provide the required funding to resolve a Safety issue? What are your thoughts?

KCC's picture

No 8 & 9 Fairley Road Football Pitch

The drainage is a problem that has existed for some time and will not be something that can be fixed quickly, or for the funds available to KCC.

The goals could be provided. Not really sure why the original goals were removed. Does anyone know?

KCC will look further into this.

No 10 Boys' Club for under 13s

This is a good idea, but is not really a use for the small grant. This idea would require a group of people to organise the Boys' Club.

Are there any volunteers?

Would you like to join a Boys' Club if one was available?

football team

i put this in because we dont have alot to do on sundays so i can try and get people to play for the team and manage it

Football

I think Webster Park is free on a Sunday.

Do you just want a kick about or a competitive game?

How many people are you talking about?

Football

Have you contacted the Community Centre to ask about availability of Webster Park?
Phone 741806 or email communitycentre@hotmail.com

football

it would have to be competitive games and webster park would be good but i think a range of different ages like 1st year to 2nd year and so on! but i think the football team would work
