Beautiful Scotland

The Community Council would like to encourage residents associations and local gardeners and environmentalists to take part in the non-competitive part of Beautiful Scotland competition. This would be a good chance to enhance Kingswells and generate some community spirit in the process.

The Neighbourhood Awards are a non-competitive initiative designed to give support and ecognition to community groups across Scotland. Beginner groups making local environmental improvements and not currently involved in the main Beautiful Scotland campaign are invited to enter.

Beautiful Scotland is the largest environmental campaign in Scotland for communities who are working to improve and enhance their local area. The main campaign has been running for over 40 years and until this year was known as "Beautiful Scotland in Bloom".

It is an all year round campaign, and entrants are expected to show evidence of activity throughout the seasons as well as spring and autumn colour. The four key themes of the campaign are: horticulture, sustainable development and biodiversity, local environmental quality, and community participation.

The intention would be to take part in the Neighbourhood initiative this year with a view to taking part in the competitive part of the initiative in the future. If you or a group you represent want to take part and help enhance the area and the community spirit then contact John Gerrie on 747996 or by email to kcc@kwells.org.

Small Project Grant

The Community Council is given a small grant (£3,000) each year to enhance the community. We are about to start the installation of additional CCTV equipment in the shopping centre and we are looking for the best positions for some signs for Kingswells Village.

If you have any suggestions for spending this year's grant then post them in the postbox by the notice board, email your suggestions to kcc@kwells.org or come along to the KCC meetings at the community centre at 8pm on the 2nd Monday of each month.

Updates

KCC will use the notice board and the web at http://kwells.org to keep you informed.

Our AGM is on Monday 14th April at 8pm in the Community Centre. Everyone is welcome.
